Our Review
Having lived in Mudgee for 15 years, Tony McKendry (a regional medical superintendent) and wife Debbie succumbed to the lure of winemaking; they planted their small (then 1.5ha) vineyard in '95. In Debbie’s words, ‘Tony, in his spare 2 minutes per day, also decided to start wine science at CSU in 1992’. She continues, ‘He’s trying to live 27 hours per day (plus we have 4 kids!). He fell to pieces when he was involved in a severe car smash in 1997. Two months in hospital stopped his full-time medical work, and the winery dreams became inevitable’. Financial compensation finally came through and the small winery was built. The now-expanded vineyard includes 3.25ha each of chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon, 1.5ha of tempranillo and 1ha each of semillon, grenache and graciano. -JAMES HALLIDAY
