Imperial Measures Distillery Mandeaux Mandarin Liqueur

There simply aren’t that many mandarin liqueurs on the market, and even fewer produced in Australia from locally grown citrus (which any self-respecting Aussie should know we do very well), so Mandeaux from Imperial Measures holds an important spot in the local liqueur landscape. The smell is somewhere in between Cointreau and the aroma of ripping into a perfectly ripe mandarin, something that transports me immediately to my primary school lunchboxes (the mandarin, not the Cointreau – my parents weren’t quite that liberal). The sugar is well controlled and the spirit is expertly distilled, and, while not having the purity and concentration of flavour of some other premium local liqueur brands, I’d gladly use this as a replacement for any kind of imported orange liqueur such as tripel sec, curaçau etc. In fact, this bottle is going straight to my liquor cabinet. Mandarin margaritas, anyone?
