A Little Bit of Broke 2026: Why Broke is the place to visit
Set among the rolling vines of Broke Fordwich, A Little Bit of Broke has fast become one of the Hunter’s most charming and relaxed wine events. Returning on Saturday 14 March 2026, this roaming celebration invites visitors to explore at their own pace – no central hub, no strict schedule, just a map, a glass and a day in wine country.
Despite being located just two hours from Sydney and an hour from Newcastle, Broke Fordwich is often described as the trail less travelled. Officially registered as a Geographic Indication in 2003 – only the second region in Australia to achieve this – it has built a reputation for quality semillon, chardonnay and shiraz, alongside an exciting wave of Mediterranean varieties.
In addition to the stellar wine offerings, the bicentennial village in Broke is deeply rooted in First Nations and settler history. The ancient land has been home to the Wonnarua/Wanaruah People for millennia, with the surrounding rock caves rich in Aboriginal art.
A Little Bit of Broke 2026 takes place on Saturday March 14.
Wine, food and music: highlights of the 2026 program
On 14 March, 15 cellar doors, farms and dining destinations will open their gates for a day of boutique tastings, cocktails at the region’s distillery, farm-gate fare and relaxed live music. From Mediterranean-style shared feasts to dumplings, seafood lunches, grazing platters and charcuterie, each stop offers its own distinct flavour. There are family-friendly touches, too, including alpaca feeding and lawn games, as well as optional bookable masterclasses, guided tastings and sensory experiences.
Karin Adcock, President of Broke Fordwich Wine and Tourism Association, says the format reflects the spirit of the region.
“A Little Bit of Broke is exactly how we like to welcome people. It’s a chance to meet the winemakers and producers, listen to some live music, and really get a feel for Broke Fordwich as a place. You can take your time, follow your curiosity and shape the day however you like,” Karin said.
“With several leading NSW wine brands that you know and love as well as smaller ones to discover, you will experience Broke Fordwich’s reputation as a quality wine region.”
Jennie Curran, CEO of Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association, highlights the event’s broader appeal.
“Broke Fordwich has its own rhythm and personality, and A Little Bit of Broke gives visitors a really authentic way to experience it,” Jennie said. “It’s ideal for a day trip from Sydney or Newcastle, but we encourage visitors to book a stay in Broke Fordwich as part of a weekend away in the Hunter Valley”.
Food includes everything from dumplings and seafood lunches to grazing platters and charcuterie.
