The 2024 Single Vineyard release from Giant Steps showcases chardonnay and pinot noir from their five cornerstone Yarra Valley vineyards: Sexton, Tarraford, Applejack, Primavera and Bastard Hill.

Giant Stepsthe Halliday Winery of the Year for 2025 – is set to release its 2024 Single Vineyard wines on Monday August 11. These four chardonnays and five pinot noirs are Giant Steps’ top-tier wines – sitting above its entry-level Yarra Valley range and new mid-tier Circle of Fifths range.

As is in the name, each of these nine wines comes from a single vineyard (either in the Yarra Valley or Tasmania), with the team capturing the specific site and season in a bottle. This release includes the 2024 Tarraford Chardonnay, 2024 Sexton Chardonnay, 2024 Applejack Chardonnay, 2024 Bastard Hill Chardonnay, 2024 Bastard Hill Pinot Noir, 2024 Primavera Pinot Noir, 2024 Applejack Pinot Noir, 2024 Sexton Pinot Noir and 2024 Coal River Valley Pinot Noir.

Halliday taster Philip Rich recently reviewed each of the wines hailing from Yarra Valley vineyards, awarding them outstanding scores. In fact, none of them received less than 96 points (an impressive feat).

Speaking of the Single Vineyard range, head of winemaking and viticulture Melanie Chester shared, “A vintage shaped by hallmark Yarra elegance, the 2024 wines are defined by clarity, perfume and precision.

“Our pinots are beautifully floral, with vibrant red fruits and finely etched tannins. The chardonnays are an exciting set, thanks to an exceptional season, delivering wines of presence and charm.

“I think the 2024s will be among our most enduring.”

And while each of the vineyards are picked, vinified and matured separately, the final blends are selected barrel by barrel – often with just a few standout barrels chosen to represent each site. The barrels that don't make the cut are then blended together (often with those from several different vineyards) to create wines for the Circle of Fifths range. The Single Vineyard wines really are Giant Step’s very best – with the chardonnays going for $95 a bottle and the pinot noirs for $105.
